lamora: Take a moment goddamn. (pretension : coffee break)

Pictures!

So my birthday was August 5th, but we had a lot going on in August so my birthday was postponed. We snuck away for Labor Day weekend to Stowe, VT. We stayed at the Northern Lights Lodge and it was just lovely. It's sort of a cross between a B&B and a motel: rustic but with common amenities (pool, hot tub, sauna.) There was an old-school game room with arcade machines and old board games. It was AWESOME.

Our bed was comfy and plush; we slept great. Actually, we decided that we were going dark (no electronics, phones on airplane mode) so that coupled with a long day and a drink or two and we were tucked in relatively early. XD We slept like the dead. I was awake first and went on a nice morning walk.

It's a very nice area to walk, and there's a hiking trail along the river. We had a nice dinner at one of the other lodges (ahaha) and mostly just relaxed. The Jacuzzi was no Scandinave, but did the trick. Most amusing sight: man running back and forth across the properties with fresh coffee filters.

Me: It's like they've got one coffee filter guy for the whole mountain.
S: They need Hotel Hell. *proceeds as Ramsay* Your whole system is fragmented! Ya got one guy runnin' around with all the filters, it's unheard of!

After a nice breakfast, we went for another walk, then packed up and started the three-hour trek back to Montreal. We stopped in Waterbury to see the Cold Hollow Cider Mill and picked up a variety of things: candles, donuts, jerky, cider, and apple juice. We also stopped at the original Ben & Jerry's factory and took the tour.

Our next stopover was Burlington. I haven't been there in years, and I'd wanted to hit up Dobra Tea. So we had a light lunch (chai & pita with hummus) and S -- who had never been -- proclaimed it the best tea he's ever tasted. ♥

Anyhoo, while the border was a nightmare heading into the USA (everyone taking off for the long weekend, our dollar rocks down there, etc.), it was a breeze coming back. Now we're home, settled, photos organized, and about to curl up with St-Hubert and re-watch Walk Hard.
