Apparently, I narrowly missed an earthquake. I'd been wondering if I would experience one, and figured, probably a little one.

It so happened I missed it by a mere couple of hours; I was still in Kyoto at the time.

But Tokyo's OK, folks!

Today I got to enjoy a real bathhouse. It was fantastic. Unfortunately, we couldn't use the outdoor onsen because it was closed, but now I really feel like hitting the Scandinave when I get home.

Those pictures will only make sense to some of you.

We went to visit Jen in Ota as planned: our last excursion out of Tokyo. We picked up one of her friends, Charlotte, and drove an hour-and-a-half out to the onsen. It was a cute little tourist town. My favorite part -- oddly enough -- was the drive there. It made me stop and think; four girls piled in a clown car, driving along the highway with snacks and good music blaring from an iPod, headed for a girls' day out. We could have been doing this anywhere, but we were doing it in Japan.

After the onsen, we went for lunch at an udon-and-soba place, which was delish. Then the drive back, and we hung out at Jen's for a bit. She showed us some Takarazuka DVDs, but after seeing it live, watching the recorded performances was even more skin-crawling. Not a fan of this DVD thing, Takarazuka! Not a fan.

And then I did something for Mom, but you aren't allowed to know what it is.

Not many pictures today, because most of today was spent in a bathhouse, but they are here.

All caught up

I so just went through all your pictures at once. I like that the metropolis side of the cities you've seen all have such a distinct look from a western city, or a european hodge-podge city.

The cherry blossoms are beautiful, and that kimono was just as lovely. I like how the food looks too. Wonder what it would taste like.

Oh yes, and I'm delighted that there is a Dragon Quest section in a store like that----with it's own display sign!

I'm not a big Japan-fan like you, but I think I will put it on my list of places I'll have to visit. Care for a second trip in the future?
